February 1991 featured a very cold week. This is a scan of the thermograph
record for that week. A thermometer in the same Stevenson Screen as the
thermograph record a low close to the -10C recorded on the 7th.
December 1995 was the month when the UK lowest temperature was equalled at Altnaharra Scotland. The weather was considerably less severe in Devon, though it is interesting to note the switches between cold and warm air masses between the 19th and the 23rd of December.
February 1986 was the coldest month here since January 1963 (and the most
recent really cold month here). These daily maximum and minimum temperatures
(in centigrade again this time...) were recorded by good thermometers on a
north wall. If much snow had fallen many would remember this month with awe,
but only a little did.
